Mango Shrikhand is a delicious Indian dessert prepared with sweet mango pulp, thick yogurt (aka hung curd), sugar and cardmom powder. This delicious shrikhand is also known as aamrakhand.

Shrikhand is a rich, creamy, delicious and easy Indian dessert. It is a traditional dessert in Gujarati and Marathi cuisine. Shrikhand is often served as a part of a Thali or with puri. It is also served as a dessert after a meal.

For this delicious dessert, yogurt is strained using a cheesecloth or muslin cloth to remove the liquid whey for several hours or overnight in the refrigerator. The resulting yogurt is known as hung yogurt (curd) or chakka is then mixed with cooked mango pulp and sugar concentrate and cardmom powder.

Mango shrikhand is a delightful dessert that combines the richness of yogurt with the unique flavors of sweet mango pulp and cardmom powder. This dessert is popularly made during summer when mangoes are in season.

Ingredients for Mango shrikhand :-

How to make Mango Shrikhand :-

1. Place a strainer on a medium sized bowl and line a cheesecloth or muslin cloth inside.

2. Pour the curd/yogurt (dahi) into the lined strainer. Then bring the edges of the muslin cloth together and gently twist so that the whey starts dripping into the bowl.

3. Now place a heavy object like mortar pestle or heavy bowl on top of the tied cheesecloth. Allow it to drain any excess liquid for at least 5-6 hours or overnight.

4. When straining makes sure to keep it in the refrigerator otherwise the curd can turn sour.

5. Set pan over medium heat and add mango pulp and sugar, stir continuously and cook until slightly thickens.

6. Once it is done turn off the flame, transfer the mango concentrate into a bowl and let it cool down completely.

7. Once the curd has drained, remove it from the cloth and strained using fine mesh strainer for the perfect smooth texture.

8. Now add mango concentrate in batches and mix it well.

9. Add cardmom powder and mix it well.

10. Garnish with chopped mango and pistachio.

11. Chill the shrikhand in the refrigerator for a few hours.

12. Enjoy Mango Shrikhand.

Notes :-

Use full fat yogurt to make shrikhand as it will give you a perfect rich and creamy texture.

For the best result use kesar or alphonso mango if available.

Adjust sweetness as per your taste.

When straining makes sure to keep it in the refrigerator, else it can turn sour.

Refrigerate the shrikhand before serving as it enhance the flavor.

  • 2.5 cup Curd/Yogurt

  • 1/2 cup Mango pulp

  • 1/4 cup Sugar

  • 1/8 Tsp Cardmom Powder

  • 5 Pistachio
