Thandai is a traditional Indian drink mostly made during the festivals of Holi and Maha Shivratri. This refreshing and cooling drink is much popular in the Northern parts of India.

Thandai is made with milk, nuts, spices like black pepper, fennel seeds and cardmom. Garnished with rose petals and saffron. This refreshing and cooling drink is perfect for hot days.

Thandai is also known as Sardai in some parts of India.

Ingredients :-

How to make Thandai :-

Thandai Powder

Add all the ingredients into mixer jar.

Use pulse mode and grind the nut mix to a fine powder. Do not overgrind as the nuts will start to release oil.

Thandai powder is ready.

Thandai Milk :-

To make thandai drink add milk and thandai powder to a blender jar.

Blend until smooth.

Strain if you like.

Garnish with nuts and rose petals.

Finally enjoy Thandai.

Notes :-

Do not overgrind the nuts mixture as the nuts starts releasing oil.

To make vegan thandai, substitute dairy milk with a plant based milk alternative such as almond milk, cashew milk or soy milk.

You can store Thandai powder in an air tight container for up to 2 months.

You can prepare the drink a day in advance and refrigerate it.

If you want a stronger yellow color for the Thandai, you can add natural yellow food color or turmeric powder or more saffron.

Serve chilled.

  • 2 Tbsp Almonds

  • 2 Tbsp Cashews

  • 2 Tbsp Pistachio

  • 1/2 Tbsp Fennel seeds

  • 1/2 Tbsp Poppy seeds

  • 1 Tbsp Melon seeds

  • 5 pods Green Cardmom

  • 6 Black Pepper

  • 1 Tbsp Rose Petals

  • Few Saffron Strands

  • 1/3 cup Sugar

  • 4 cups Milk (for thandai drink)

Directions

  • Add all the ingredients into mixer jar.
