Green Chutney | Coriander Chutney | Cilantro Chutney, is a fresh, vibrant and flavor packed Indian condiment. This popular Indian style cilantro dipping sauce is made with fresh coriander leaves, green chilies, garlic, ginger, roasted peanut, lime juice, salt, roasted cumin seeds and touch of sugar.

It is often used in Indian cuisine, especially for sandwiches, wraps, chaat, frankie and variety of Indian snacks. It is also known as dhaniya chutney or hari chutney.

This cilantro chutney is a very popular condiment from India. You will always find this delicious chutney at most Indian homes and restaurant as dipping sauce or side. There are many variations of this chutney based on the different regions.

Here I am sharing quick and easy ultimate coriander chutney recipe with step by step instructions and video. This basic version of ultimate green chutney made with coriander leaves is very versatile.

Ingredients for Green Chutney :-

Coriander Leaves/ Cilantro – You can use fresh coriander leaves with tender stems. Discard the hard stems.

Green chili – I use Indian green chilies. You can use serrano pepper too. Add as per your taste.

Ginger & Garlic – Use freshly peeled ginger and garlic.

Roasted Cumin Seeds – Dry roast cumin seeds until turns aromatic and slightly brown in color.

Roasted Peanut – Use dry roasted and skinned peanuts.

Salt – Add as per your taste.

Lime Juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice not only add citrusy flavor but also helps preserve the green color.

Sugar – This is optional but highly recommended. It helps balance all the flavors. You can use honey in place of sugar.

Ice cubes/Chilled Water – Helps to preserve the green color.

How to make Green Chutney :-

Clean the coriander leaves/cilantro well. Keep the tender stem and discard the hard one. Wash it well.

Now in a blender jar add ice cubes, coriander leaves, green chili, ginger, garlic, roasted peanut, roasted cumin, sugar, salt, lime juice and blend to smooth.

If requires add 1-2 tbsp water.

Green chutney is ready.

Tips :-

Use ice cubes/chilled water while blending. Which will help to preserve the green color.

Adjust spice level as per your taste.

You can store the chutney in an airtight container in refrigerator for up to a week.

You can freeze the chutney for up to 2-3 months. Just portion out the chutney in an ice cubes tray and freeze it. Whenever you want to serve, just thaw a cubes on the kitchen counter. Do not microwave.

  • 2 bunch (50 gm) Fresh Coriander Leaves/Cilantro

  • 2 Tbsp Roasted Peanuts

  • 2 Green Chili

  • 1 inch Ginger (peeled)

  • 4 Garlic Coves (peeled)

  • 1 Tsp Roasted Cumin

  • 1/2 Sugar

  • 2 Tsp Lime Juice

  • Salt to taste

  • Ice Cubes/Chilled Water as required

Directions :-
